Since 2024, we have stopped using water-repellent treatments that deliberately incorporate PFAS in our new product developments, and we have also switched to alternatives in our existing collections, with a few exceptions. Nevertheless, it is not yet possible to completely rule out unintentional, process-related traces of PFAS. Furthermore, in the field of Category III personal protective equipment (PPE), equipment containing PFAS may still be required to ensure the high level of protection mandated by law.
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are chemicals that are frequently used to waterproof clothing due to their functional properties. Given their impact on people and the environment, we have been working for several years to systematically reduce and replace the use of PFAS-containing treatments.
This is based on a strict chemicals management system with clear limit values, random testing by independent testing institutes, the AFIRM Group’s Restricted Substances List (RSL) and our bluesign system partnership.
