Safety footwear in accordance with EN ISO 20345 is classified into the following protection classes:
SB, S1, S1P, S2, S3, S4, S5, S6 and S7
All safety shoes and safety boots are fitted with a toe cap.
The basic requirements for all protection classes include:
- Tested slip resistance (tested on ceramic tiles with cleaning agents)
- Antistatic properties (not applicable to SB)
- Energy absorption in the heel area (not applicable to SB)
The main differences between the safety classes are:
- Puncture-resistant sole (S1P, S3, S5, S7)
- Water resistance for up to 60 minutes – this means: the upper material is protected against water penetration for at least 60 minutes (S2, S3)
- Waterproof footwear with a weatherproof membrane (S6, S7)
You can find a complete overview of the protection classes for work and safety footwear here in the STRAUSS online shop.
Work and safety footwear may also be awarded additional certifications:
- SR (Slip Resistance): increased slip resistance – additional test on ceramic tiles with cleaning agents and glycerine
- FO (Fuel & Oil Resistance) = fuel resistance of the sole
- CO (Cold Insulated) = protection of the foot against the cold
- HI (Heat Insulated) = protection of the foot against heat
- HRO (Heat Resistant Outsole) = protection of the outsole against heat
